Promoting Physical Activity for Cancer Survivors

June 1, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

The George Washington University (GW) Cancer Center invites you to join our upcoming Ask the Expert on Promoting Physical Activity for Cancer Survivors with LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA. Physical activity can help reduce the risk for certain new cancers or cancer recurrence, and reduce the likelihood of premature death and adverse health effects of cancer treatment. However, in 2009, about one-third of survivors had not participated in any physical activity in the past 30 days.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a program that helps adult cancer survivors improve their strength and physical fitness, diminish the severity of therapy side effects, develop supportive relationships and improve their quality of life, and evidence of program effectiveness.
  • Describe the benefits and outcomes of LIVESTRONG at the YMCA as told by a survivor participant.
  • Identify methods and resources to promote LIVESTRONG at the YMCA to survivors and stakeholders.
