Workgroup Strategies and Outcomes

Strategy 1: Increase healthy weight among South Dakota adults.

Outcomes

·         Decrease obesity.

-        Baseline = 28.1% of South Dakota adults are obese. (BRFSS, 2008)

-        Target = 25%

Strategy 2: Increase healthy dietary behaviors.

Outcomes

·         Increase fruit and vegetable consumption.

-        Baseline = 18.6% of adults consume five servings of fruits and vegetables per day. (BRFSS, 2007)

-        Target = 25%

-        Baseline = 47.5% of South Dakota infants are breastfed for 6 months. (National Immunization Survey, 2006)

-        Target = 50%

Strategy 3: Increase physical activity and decrease inactivity.

Outcomes

·         Increase physical activity

-        Baseline = 47.8% of adults meet recommended guidelines for physical activity (30+ minutes of moderate physical activity five or more days per week, or vigorous physical activity for 20+ minutes three or more days per week). (BRFSS, 2007)

-        Target = 50% meet guidelines

·         Decrease television viewing

-        Baseline = 72.7% of South Dakota adults watch television two or more hours per day. (BRFSS, 2007)

-        Target = 65%
