Jim is the Tobacco Control Program Director at the SD Department of Health Tobacco Control Program
This program coordinates state efforts to prevent people from starting to use tobacco products, help current toabacco users quit, and reduce nonsmokers' exposure to second-hand smoke.

Strategy: Eliminate or reduce commercial tobacco use.

Outcomes

-        Baseline = 23.2% of students smoked cigarettes on one or more of the past 30 days (YRBS, 2009)

-        Target = 20.5%

-        Baseline = 17.5% of adults in South Dakota smoke (BRFSS, 2009)

-        Target = 15%
