Dr. Makaroff will discuss the current colorectal cancer incidence\, mortality and screening rates and how stool-based testing can be used to increase your clinic or health system screening rate. A comprehensive colorectal cancer screening program should include options for stool-based tests and structural exams (colonoscopy). Makaroff is Senior Director\, Cancer Control Intervention\, at the American Cancer Society. In this role\, she provides strategic and clinical leadership to various Cancer Control programs including a community initiative program aimed at increasing cancer screening and reducing cancer-related disparities in underserved populations. She also provides clinical and technical expertise for other cancer control activities including colorectal cancer\, skin cancer\, and liver cancer. Prior to joining ACS\, Dr. Makaroff served as a Senior Clinical Advisor for the Office of Quality Improvement\, Bureau of Primary Health Care at the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA). In her role at HRSA\, she provided clinical leadership for the nation’s community health center program’s quality strategy\, including patient-centered medical home transformation\, clinical quality measures\, and electronic health record implementation. Prior to joining HRSA\, Dr. Makaroff completed a fellowship in health policy at Georgetown University and The Robert Graham Center in Washington\, DC. She completed her residency in family medicine at the University of Colorado and has experience in a variety of clinical settings including in her own solo practice\, in community health centers\, and integrated delivery systems. Dr. Makaroff continues to provide patient care in a safety-net setting in Clarkston\, GA.
