SUMMARY:Addressing Financial Toxicity in Cancer Care: The Role of Tumor Boards
DESCRIPTION:Addressing Financial Toxicity in Cancer Care: The Role of Tumor Boards \nCancer treatment often involves not just physical and emotional challenges but significant financial burdens for patients and their families. Financial toxicity—the strain of high medical costs and out-of-pocket expenses—can directly impact a patient’s ability to adhere to treatment plans\, leading to worse outcomes. \nPresenter: Greg Knight\, MD | Atrium Health Levine Cancer Center (Charlotte\, NC) \nBio: Dr. Knight is a clinical leukemia and bone marrow transplant physician at Atrium Health Levine Cancer in Charlotte\, NC\, and an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He is an experienced health services researcher with a focus on health equity and the financial toxicity of cancer care. Notably\, he is the cofounder and currently serves as the Chair of the Atrium Health Levine Cancer Financial Toxicity Tumor Board. His primary research centers on financial toxicity in patients (financial hardship due to the cost of cancer treatment) and on developing interventional models to help address this issue. He is chair of the Financial Toxicity Tumor Board at Levine Cancer Institute\, which provides support to patients.

Our goal is to highlight the determination and tenacity of cancer patients and their families as well as bring awareness to the services at the Monument Health Cancer Care Institute and the strides and taken to help treat and prevent cancer. Our fundraising goal is to strive to beat last year’s amount\, but every dollar raised is a gift to fight against cancer. \nYour generosity fuels cancer-fighting efforts for thousands of patients who face cancer with courage and determination. More of our friends and loved ones are confronting the hardest battle of their lives. Each day more than 160 cancer patients are cared for at Monument Health’s Cancer Care Institute. More than 40\,000 patient visits annually. Approximately 1\,300 new patients annually. \nGame Day Information:\nPuck drops at 7:05 p.m. \nSupport our cause by purchasing Chuck-A-Pucks or making general donations in our Purple Bucket Pass. \nThe Rush Hockey Team has created a special ticket price with us where proceeds from all ticket sales will be donated to our local Cancer Care Institute.
