DESCRIPTION:As part of Yankton Rural AHEC’s ongoing mission to provide relevant resources\, we’ve included several items to promote HPV vaccination.  Yankton Rural AHEC is part of a national project with the National AHEC Organization\, funded through CDC\, to provide resources and training to health professionals\, promoting the use of strong recommendation for the vaccine. \nWe’d like to invite you to attend our next national webinar! \nYou Are the Key: Best Practices for HPV Cancer Prevention \nTuesday\, June 12\, 2 p.m. ET \nRegistration Link: http://nao-ntc.adobeconnect.com/yatkhpvbestpractices/event/registration.html?campaign-id=800 \nPresented by: Betty Lo\, MD\, Professor of Clinical Medicine and Pediatrics; Director of Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Program at Louisiana State University School of Medicine \nLow HPV vaccination rates are leaving boys and girls vulnerable to devastating HPV cancers. Have you been making an effective HPV vaccination recommendation for kids 11 and 12 years old? This presentation will provide up-to-date information on HPV infection/disease\, the HPV vaccine\, ACIP recommendations\, and ways to successfully communicate with patients and their parents about HPV vaccination. Find out how to reduce missed opportunities by recommending HPV vaccine the same way and same day you recommend other routinely recommended adolescent vaccines. Learn best practices from other medical offices across the nation that are making HPV vaccination a priority. \nCME/CE credits pending!

SUMMARY:HPV Vaccination Challenges in Rural and Suburban Settings
DESCRIPTION:A significant factor related to disparities in HPV vaccine receipt is place of residence. Higher vaccination rates have been reported in urban areas compared to rural areas. Specific reasons for the higher HPV vaccination rates in urban compared to rural places have been largely understudied. However\, these differences in vaccination rates may be due to differences in individual parent/patient level factors (e.g.\, attitudes\, beliefs\, knowledge)\, healthcare level factors (e.g. provider recommendation\, access to HPV vaccination\, strategies for patient education) and/or geographic level factors (e.g.\, rates of poverty\, ethnic density\, access to primary care) in rural and suburban settings compared to urban settings. More social and behavioral research and evidence based interventions are needed to reduce barriers to HPV vaccination in rural and suburban settings and increase HPV vaccination among those least likely to receive the HPV vaccine in the United States. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nTo Explore Social\, Cultural\, and Instrumental Barriers to HPV vaccination that are Unique to Rural and Suburban Settings in the United States.\nTo Discuss Evidence Based Strategies to Improve HPV Vaccination in Rural and Suburban Settings in the United States.\nTo Examine where future research is needed in these areas.\n\nDeanna Kepka\, PhD\,MPH will be the speaker at this event. Deanna Kepka is a Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) investigator and an assistant professor in the College of Nursing at the University of Utah. She is a member of the Cancer Control and Population Sciences (CCPS) research group. Kepka is the Founder and Director of the Intermountain West HPV Vaccination Coalition and is the Director of Global and International Health for the College of Nursing at the University of Utah. \nRegister here.
